  Bozeat Players ....

Please keep watching this space. We are working on the history of “Bozeat Players” and hope to bring you more information soon.

We have given the village a lot of fun and entertainment over the years and even the many daffodils, which are still growing around our streets.

Bozeat Players News Letter August 2006

Message from the Chairman

Our Annual General Meeting was held on the 12th May 2006 at the Church hall upon which the committee retired. A new committee was elected by the members to serve for 12 months.

The New Committee is as follows:
Chairman – James Spencer, Vice-Chair - Tracy Hurley, Secretary  - John Burgess, Treasurer – David Brown, Lloyd Grey and Barbara Deviny were voted to stand on the committee

Three requests for donations were received, a request was made by the Age Concern lunch club, Beavers/Cubs and the St Mary’s Church Bell ringers. It was agreed that a sum of £100 be donated to both the Beavers/Cubs and the St Mary’s Church Bell ringers, for a one out of the six new bell ropes, and £50 to the Age Concern lunch club.

The Players had a stall at the Bozeat Fete held on the 11th June at the Playing fields; The group was well represented with a mixture of members and committee and at the event we were able to advertise the play that was held in the weeks following.

I would like to thank the committee for all their help and hard work over the last 12 months, all the preparations came together and helped to produce a great panto (The Man In The Moon) and the play (Write About What You Know) so successful, no matter how small your involvement, “you were appreciated” and with everyone’s help and dedication the performances were a success.

Many Thanks. James Spencer

Treasurers Report for 2005 - 06

I have now completed another year of form filling and struggled a little in getting dog eared receipts returned in an orderly fashion.

The income has been successful again this year, the main part by ticket sales but other income shown on the income expenditure sheet. A total of £3309.46 made up of: Sales 3046.98, Subs 212.50, Bank Interest 49.98. Expenditure on the 2006 panto was a little above our original budget of £1500.00 but taking out bar stock of £310 pounds as this was not directly due to production costs, an actual figure of £1451.00 was spent.

Donations have been £420.00 during the year. Money went to: Beavers £100; Age Concern £100; Mums and Tots £100;   Rothwell Players £40; St John Ambulance £50; St Mary’s Church Bell fund £30 [raised from the auction of a bottle of scotch on Saturday Panto night]

As usual late comers turned up on a number of nights but we managed to squeeze everyone in on the usual Friday and Saturday nights.  I feel it is most important to keep up with the paperwork and records of our financial transactions. I have been able to show where the money has come from, and gone to, in what is quite a large sum of money in turn over. Accurate records of programme sales, raffle and bar sales have been kept together with the collection of ticket sales for all to see.

With continued good housekeeping we should be able to continue with this extremely good end of year profit.  Overall, this year has again been financially successful. The accounts have been audited by Geoff Simmons, an Accountant living in Wollaston, and has signed them off after asking a few mandatory questions to flex his calculator. He is willing to be our auditor on a regular basis.

I have been elected treasurer for another financial year and as I don’t do acting, I am happy to continue with putting time and effort into Players with the accounts, tickets, bar etc and let actors get on with acting. Thank you for your support.

We hope to support other local groups with donations this year and any suggestions would be welcome. If any one wants copies of the balance sheet/accounts please let me know.

David Brown

……. and our summer production

“Write About What You Know” was the first play we had performed for 5 years. A comedy, written by Paul Gisby, it gave each of the cast a great opportunity to really get into their character. Superbly written, the comedy was very much visual as well as verbal and the cast made the most of every chance to get a laugh from the audiences. There were many times throughout rehearsals, when we had to “take five” and recover from fits of laughter, even though we had been through each scene many times.

We were delighted to welcome no less than four new faces to our cast, plus an old face which hadn’t been seen on stage for some time. They all worked very hard and should be justly proud of the end result.

The cast was: Barbara Deviny, Roxy Kennaird, Bill Ogilvie, Russell Skinner, Lisa Mansfield, Clive Stourton, Emma Walker and Alan Akers. John Burgess directed and produced the show.

Whilst the main reason for being involved in amateur dramatics is the enjoyment it gives us, and our audiences, the financial side is important too. It was very gratifying therefore, that we made over ₤400 profit from the four performances.

So, another success chalked up and after a few weeks off, it will be back into the swing for the 2007 panto.

John Burgess

With the funds that are generated through productions performed by village and local talent, we have been able to donate monies to various causes.  Many groups have benefited from your support ........
