BOZEAT COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL
We rounded off the year's work celebrating the progress and achievements of all pupils throughout the school and presenting the termly Governors' Achievement Awards to pupils from each class for consistent performance and achievement in English, Mathematics, Science and ICT. We are particularly proud of our Year 2 and Year 6 pupils, who are subject to end of Key Stage national assessment. Their achievements are as follows:
Year 2 - Speaking and Listening 100%, Reading 95%, Writing 89%, Maths 100%, Science 100%. Year 6 -English 87% (countering last year's 'dip' ), Maths 93% ( a significant improvement, reversing a three year downward trend), Science 93% (countering last year's 'dip' ) Depending on the number of children in the year group, each child can be 'worth' between 4%-10%.
We met, and in some cases exceeded, our aspirational targets. Improvements made to the children's curriculum experiences, particularly in the teaching of maths, are certainly paying dividends. We are further developing the curriculum this year through a more creative approach, enabling children to use skills and knowledge gained in English, Maths and Science lessons more effectively across all other subjects.
An end of term highlight without doubt was the End of Year Prom for the top two classes. Many thanks to everyone involved in making this such a successful event; staff, parents, Friends of Bozeat School, local businesses and most of all to the children themselves, whose sense of occasion matched their impeccable dress.
We are pleased to further promote our Healthy School status with two new initiatives this year. We have opened Bozeat Breakfast Club, providing good quality healthy food, friendly well qualified staff and a caring environment for pupils attending the school or Bozeat Pre-School. There will be occasional themed breakfasts to mark festivals, celebrations or other events or to promote aspects of the work of the school. An example of this will be on Monday 13th October when all Year 5 and 6 children will be invited to join school staff and external professionals for breakfast prior to spending the morning planning a community health and wellbeing event to be held on Wednesday 22nd October. All Bozeat residents are welcome to attend this event, look out for posters in the Spar and Paper Shop nearer the time. We have also reviewed the school food and drink policy and introduced a healthy tuck shop selling fruit and a variety of other healthy items. This is a self-financing initiative to promote awareness of healthy eating and extend existing good practice in Pre-School, Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.
Work to replace the doors and windows is almost complete. The difference to both internal and external appearance is phenomenal. The workmen have been superb, working with minimal disruption to daily school routines. We shall miss them when they move on to their next job!
The library refurbishment is well underway and a grand reopening with a celebrity guest is planned to coincide with National Book Week between 6th-10th October. We are pleased the school building is being used for an increasing number of community group activities. Another date for your diary is Saturday 22nd November when 'A Tasting Guide to the Scottish Water of Life' will be held in the school hall. Refreshments will be available! Again, look for posters nearer the time.
Here's to another challenging but positive and successful year ahead. Thank you for your continuing interest and support.
