The WI was started in Canada in 1897 by Adelaide Hoodless in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Her fourth child died from what she believed was her own ignorance of hygiene and child care and so she started classes for the local women on domestic science. From these beginnings the WI has evolved. The first WI in the United Kingdom met in 1915 at LlanfairpwLL, Isle of Anglesey, North Wales. Bozeat‘s WI was founded in October 1949 by Mrs Terry — the village headmaster's wife. A general meeting was called and 50 ladies attended. Subsequently there were 70 members who met in the old school (now private dwellings opposite the Spar shop). The WI has moved with the times and accommodates the many ways in which women's lives have changed over the years, but the ethos is still the same, helping women to lead the lives they want and having a say In all our futures by having our voices heard on local, national and international issues. it also offers us the opportunity to learn and develop new skills in a fun and friendly environment.

Bozeat Wl is part of the Northamptonshire Federation of Women's Institutes at Wl House, 71 Park View, Moulton, Northants NN3 7UZ.

We meet in the school room of the Independent Wesleyan Chapel on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm. We endeavour to make our meetings interesting and enjoyable with a carefully chosen speaker, a short period to cover the business aspect, followed by half an hour or so of social time and light refreshment.

Our committee is enthusiastic and pro-active, constantly seeking new ideas to keep our WI lively and able to offer all our members, old or young, enjoyable evenings together. Additionally, we organize trips throughout the year to a variety of locations.

We currently have 31 friendly members, all of whom would give a warm welcome to anyone new wishing to join us. We are happy to offer a free ‘taster’ session, should you wish to try us out. Visitors are welcome to all meetings but are requested to pay £3 per visit. The annual subscription is £33.00 of which National Federation of Women's Institute takes £10.90, Northampton County Federation, £7.30 and Bozeat WI retains £14.80 which forms the basis of our running costs.

If you require any further information please call any of the numbers above, alternatively, log on to our web page and keep up to date with our activities.
